Recently I wrote about 4 things you do every day that cause back pain. In this post, I wanted to follow up withg a basic introduction to how acupuncture can help relieve your pain once it starts.
The foundation of acupuncture lies in the belief that there are 20 pathways that conduct energy throughout the body. There are more than 2,000 points that connect with these pathways, and when the flow of energy is disrupted along any one of them, a number of conditions can result, including your back pain.
The purpose of acupuncture is to open these points so that energy can flow freely, and this helps relieve back pain in a number of ways such as:
- Reducing pain signals sent to the brain so you don???t hurt as much
- Improving circulation in very small blood vessels of the body. This in turn helps reduce stiffness in the back muscles, and increases joint mobility to enhance your range of motion.
- Reduces inflammation that could cause pressure on the nerves and vertebrae in the back and lead to pain.
Despite the fact that it involves needles, patients rarely consider acupuncture to be painful. This is because the needles have a smoother point than other needles, and are also micro-thin (about the width of a human hair).
Since it promotes the removal of harmful substances from the body, many people report having more energy and a strengthened immune system after undergoing acupuncture. As such, it could help you resolve a number of health issues aside from your back pain.
