City Acupuncture Silver Lake is excited to bring affordable facial rejuvenation acupuncture to Los Angeles!
You knew that cosmetic acupuncture was going to blow up when Gwyneth Paltrow started rhapsodizing about it on Goop and Kim Kardashian started posting selfies from her acupuncturist’s table on Instagram. But Facial Rejuvenation acupuncture is definitely not just for actresses and reality stars.
Cosmetic acupuncture (also called Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture) is not a new concept. In fact, these techniques were used in China as far back as 1121 B.C.E. and combined herbs, acupuncture, and dietary therapies for aesthetic purposes.
Today, we typically choose acupuncture points on your body, hands, and/or feet to support internal imbalances that might be causing wrinkles, sallow skin tone, saggy jawlines and bags under the eyes, or other conditions like acne, rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, or even TMJ and Bell’s Palsy. Then we follow up with tiny, thin needles all over the face to target problem areas.
HOW DOES IT WORK:
The needles produce “micro trauma.” This means the numerous tiny punctures can stimulate skin cells to produce more collagen to fill in tiny lines, and attract qi and blood to the face to clear blemishes, rashes, and dull skin. WHAT IS INCLUDED?
At City Acupuncture Silver Lake our facial acupuncturists tailor a treatment to your needs that may incorporate e-stim, massage, facial cupping, dermarollers, or a technique called “Facial Gua Sha,” where a small tool (often made of jade or rose quartz) is used on the face to break up muscle adhesions. This allows the skin to lie smoothly over the relaxed muscles. Facial Gua Sha is a fantastic alternative for those who are hesitant to allow so many needles near their face!
HOW MUCH DO I NEED?
Like other forms of acupuncture, Facial Rejuvenation works best when it is performed in a cumulative series. Most people will start to notice results after 4-5 sessions, and have optimum results after 10 visits. Your facial acupuncturist will let you know how often you should schedule your sessions, which will vary with your age, skin quality, and which conditions are being addressed.WHO IS IT GOOD FOR?
Facial Rejuvenation can be great for those with wrinkles, dull skin, blemishes, and dermatological conditions. However, people with a history of migraines, uncontrolled hypertension, diabetes, or infectious skin conditions will want to forgo this approach in favor of something a little gentler - facial acupuncture moves a lot of qi upwards in the body and that's not always the best thing for these conditions. Similarly, pregnant women will want to make their acupuncturist aware of their condition so a gentler, lighter approach can be used.
SOUNDS GREAT - BUT HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The complexity of the treatment contributes to the price of Facial Rejuvenation, which can be pretty steep. The range in Los Angeles goes up to $500 a session and beyond, but averages around $200 per session. At City Acupuncture Silver Lake, we charge $59 for your first session, and $89 per session after that. Our skin care treatment plan bundles the number of sessions typically needed into a discount package - you can save $200!
