City Acupuncture practitioners see thousands of patients struggling with anxiety and depression each year. Our patients may be having temporary trouble coping with life circumstances, or they may have a longstanding issue for which they use acupuncture in conjunction with cognitive therapies and pharmaceutical support. In each case, patients continue to seek help at City Acupuncture because of the resulting improvement in mood, sleep, and motivation.
In New York City, simply functioning from day to day and handling your work, social, and family responsibilities is overwhelming. We face a constant stream of stimuli and occasional setbacks (rent hikes? train delays?) that, depending on the individual, can result in anxiety, depression, panic attacks, insomnia, general fatigue and burnout.
The human nervous system is prepared to cope with short bursts of stress, as when our ancestors ran from a predator or faced other threats to their physical survival. However, New Yorkers routinely battle constant low-grade stress. We experience stress over careers, parenting, our love lives and marriages, money, and being surrounded by 8,000,000 neighbors in NYC. Many of us have developed psychological coping mechanisms to deal with these stressors that involve reacting with heightened receptivity, as in the case of anxiety, or shutting down in response to stress stimuli as in depression.
Acupuncture can help level out these emotional highs and lows and better cope with the stressors around you.
City Acupuncture's acupuncture treatment plans are centered on our patients’ individual needs and goals.
During your first visit, one of our Licensed Acupuncturists will assess and treat you to establish a baseline Eastern Medicine diagnosis and determine how many more sessions might be required for you to see optimal results. Because acupuncture has a cumulative medicinal effect, it helps to think of each session as a "dose" of medicine. Depending on how long standing and how severe your anxiety, depression, insomnia, or other concern might be, your acupuncturist may prescribe an average of five to ten visits before you see consistent results. Your acupuncturist will also give you tips for managing your condition between visits. City Acupuncture strives to keep the process affordable so that you can get all the acupuncture you need to meet your health goals.
Because we strive to make acupuncture affordable and accessible to all, our acupuncture clinics are conveniently located throughout the city. With locations in Fulton Street, East Village and Bed Stuy, you’re sure to find a City Acupuncture clinic on your way home or work.
